John Higgins CBE, Chair of the International AI Governance Association, addressed the opening ceremony of the World Internet Conference Asia Pacific Summit in Hong Kong, calling for stronger global cooperation on artificial intelligence governance and digital development.

The 2nd AutoSec Europe conference took place in Frankfurt 19-20th March 2026. The event was organised by TAAS Labs with IAGA co-hosting alongside Shanghai V2X Association.

Over two days this growing conference covered many topics, from secure boot loading of on-board automotive devices, through post quantum encryption, to the management of automative cybersecurity.

IAGA took an active role at MWC Barcelona, 2-5th March 2026. We facilitated a panel discussion on embodied AI, and also contributed to the annual Global Industry Organisations forum, speaking about the role of AI Governance and launching two new papers resulting from collaborative projects on AI Transparency and Cybersecurity in the Intelligence Era. The International Multilateral Cooperation Forum on Artificial Intelligence Governance took place on 27th July, as part of World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025, Shanghai.

A key message from the forum is that we must seek harmonisation at higher AI governance levels to facilitate AI governance at organisation level, particularly for multi-national product and service organisations operating in multiple international markets. Currently these companies have to negotiate a complex web of regulations and standards. We must make efforts to reduce fragmentation and reduce the cost of compliance. IAGA is committed to taking this mission forwards.

On 4th November, the University of Bath annual CDT conference for AI took place at the M-Shed in Bristol. Rob Wortham delivered the keynote talk ‘AI Governance: The State of Play’. In his talk, Rob presented the work of the AI Assurance Club and outlined some of its recent achievements.

John Higgins addressed delegates at the World AI Conference in Shanghai in July 2024 on the subject of global trends in AI governance and assurance. John talked about developments in the underlying AI standards and about the challenges organisations are facing integrating the compliance requirements of horizontal regulation with long established sector-specific vertical requirements.
